Ignored by Others. Perfected by Planatome.

Where sharpening ends, precision begins. Planatome redefines true surgical performance.

The Problem

Sharpening Services Use 100+ Year Old Technology

Current sharpening services still rely on century-old surface restoration methods, such as diamond grinding and coarse abrasion. Over time, micro-abrasions, burrs, and inconsistent grinds accumulate, causing increased tissue drag, faster dulling, and poor performance.
  • Uneven edges
  • Tissue trauma
  • Reduced instrument lifespan
  • Physician frustration and dissatisfaction

Planatome Goes Beyond

Traditional sharpening techniques simply “restore” these flawed surfaces rather than advancing them, limiting both precision and instrument longevity. With Planatome, instrument service reaches an entirely new level. Each surface is perfected at the near-atomic level to achieve performance beyond new, ensuring unparalleled healing, reliability, and performance in every procedure.
  • Restoration of true edge geometry for consistent, reliable performance.
  • Removal of surface defects and burrs invisible to the human eye.
  • Sharpness that lasts, reducing the need for replacement cycles.
  • Reduction in tissue trauma by ensuring smoother, cleaner cuts.

The Planatome Process

Every instrument we handle is dramatically improved because your outcomes depend on it.

1

Assessment & Transparency

Every instrument is carefully inspected to determine if it can be fully serviced. If we find that an item is beyond service, you’ll be informed immediately to ensure you only invest in services that provide true value.

2

Nano-Polishing & Refinement

Using semiconductor-inspired nano-polishing, we eliminate microscopic surface defects and return every edge to a mirror-smooth finish.

3

Testing & Resetting

Each instrument is tested for alignment, tension, and cutting performance, restored to meet or exceed its original specifications.

4

Protection & Return

Completed instruments are protected with covers and shipped or hand-delivered back to your facility within 48 hours for immediate use.

FAQ

We do not manufacture scissors or any other medical instruments. Our focus is on providing premium sharpening services for reusable surgical tools, using our advanced nano-polishing technology.

We service a wide range of surgical scissors, including supercut scissors, micro and delicate scissors, general-purpose surgical scissors, and tungsten carbide scissors. Our service is designed to restore scissor precision and performance.

Beyond scissors, Planatome services an array of reusable surgical instruments, including curettes, rongeurs, and other precision tools with cutting edges commonly used in operating rooms. We’re committed to helping healthcare professionals maintain high-performance instruments that support positive surgical outcomes.

Our sharpening service includes 3 essential steps: polishing, performance testing, and resetting each instrument. We make sure every tool is not only sharp but also properly aligned and fully functional, ready for safe clinical use.

Unlike traditional sharpening providers, Planatome uses nano-polishing—originally developed for the semiconductor industry—to achieve an ultra-smooth, ultra-sharp edge. This technology has been proven to reduce tissue trauma, improve surgical precision, and extend the overall performance life of the instrument between sharpening services.

Our standard turnaround time is 1 week from the date we receive your instruments. This ensures a quick yet thorough service, without compromising on quality or detail.

At this time, we do not offer mobile or on-site sharpening services. All instruments must be shipped to our facility to undergo the complete Planatome nano-polishing process.

To get started, complete this Request Form. After we receive your completed form, we will send you a shipping label. Please sterilize your instruments before shipping. Note that customers are responsible for the cost of shipping both to and from our facility.

Yes, we offer recurring service on a case-by-case basis. If you are interested in setting up a regular sharpening schedule, please contact our service representatives.

Yes, there are clear clinical advantages to Planatome nano-polishing and sharpening service. Our technology produces sharper, more durable instruments that help minimize tissue trauma, reduce scarring, and accelerate healing times. The same nano-polishing technology used in our flagship scalpel blades is applied to every instrument we sharpen.
